Come July 23, I am going to feel like the new kid on the block. I've never been to Chicago and I've never been to BlogHer. And I can't wait to experience both! That said, I definitely feel like I'll be walking around clueless. And feeling like everyone will know I'm clueless. You know, kind of like the dreaded first day of school.
I grew up outside of New York City. I lived in Boston. I'm a big fan of big cities. Chicago is virgin soil for me...and I've heard it's fantastic. I can't wait until the plane lands and I get my first taste of the Windy City.
I remember reading about BlogHer for the first time a few years ago and thinking, that would be fun but I'll never get to go to something like that. And here I am...tickets purchased and hotel booked!
While I'm excited about the prospect of this trip in July...I still feel like a newbie. So, help me out! What's going to make my first trip to Chicago the best ever? How can I make the most of my two days at BlogHer? While I may be a newbie, I know I've got plenty of you to help me...and maybe I won't end up with a "Kick Me" sign taped to my back after all.

Chicago is wonderful. Really. It’s generally clean and it’s easy to get around, and Michigan Avenue = bliss.
There are a lot of people who will ask you for money – so either be ready with some change to give or … not.
If you love cajun food – Heaven on Seven on Rush above the Loews theatre is the best I’ve ever had.
Don’t walk TOWARD the lake while eating a chocolate ice cream cone in the summer. It makes a big mess.
The bar at the top of the John Hancock building has a fantastic view.
when your party is wrapped, come relax with us in Java East at the Sheraton -
thank, dawn! what great tips…and I’m even more excited now!
hopefully we’ll see you…would be great!
Some great places to try are:
Violet Hour, Bin Cafe, and Hot Chocolate – all in Wicker Park/Bucktown (my ‘hood!)
The Signature Lounge at the top of the Hancock (skip the Sears…the Hancock is the best view in the city)
Millennium Park, just to stroll around
Any of the museums, depending on your interests.
I would skip Navy Pier, unless you’ll be accompanied by youngins…
