During my annual Spring clean, I learned two very important lessons. One, don’t use a dustbuster to vacuum out the fireplace. I looked like an extra in Mary Poppin’s in the chimney sweep bit. And two, it’s not a good idea to mix bleach and pine-sol in the same spray bottle that has a little 409 left in it. I felt woozy every time I sprayed it. At least my Swiffer duster and wet mop worked great!

Taking pride and keeping my first house clean is my best moment. Somehow it is different than cleaning an apartment.

My mom cleaning moment happened when we thought the kids let us sleep in on a Saturday morning….when we got up and went into the living room one of their stuffed toys had the stuffing pulled out in little nickel-sized balls ALL OVER the living room. It looked like it had snowed in there. We now refer to the living room as the toy graveyard since so many stuffed toys have died there!

Our lights went out recently. In the darkness I knocked over a candle that was in a glass jar. I ended up cleaning the glass with a wet paper towel to make sure I got it all. A swiffer would have been nice to have at that moment.

Last month my little boy had diaper rash and I had him naked to let his bum air out. When I wasn’t watching, he pooped on my floor and squirmed around in it…it was everywhere. That was a fun mess to clean up!

Last week my two year old son got the honey out of the pantry and squirted a blob in each sqauare of tile in our kitchen. I came into the room and he said, “Taaa daaaa! It’s shiney for you!” He was stickey, the floor was stickey…but a what a moment!

While potty training my oldest, she constantly mistook my little one’s Bumbo seat for her potty chair. Luckily it’s easy to wipe clean!

Well just yesterday my 5 year old “helped” me clean–since I was mopping the kitchen, he went upstairs and unknown to me pulled out the vacuum, knocking over a house plant in the process. So I had the pleasure of vacuuming dirt out of the rug after I finished mopping the floor.

My almost 3 year old decided to grab the large container of powdered mix for chocolate milk from off of the counter. She ran into our bedroom, laid down on the bed and started shaking it violently. The lid popped off and a rain of chocolate powder fell all over her and our bed. We had a chocolate kid and chocolate bathwater as well as chocolate washing machine water. I think I’m still vacuuming up powder from the carpet…
